Costa Mesa Partners With Newport Beach Luxury Animal Hospital
By Kurt Real Estate Nov 23, 2019
Two words. Cat Condos. Need we say more? To house it’s stray animals, Costa Mesa has teamed up with luxury Newport Center Animal Hospital and Pet Hotel Suites. On a temporary basis these animals will be housed here and cared for in ways many other facilities can’t or just don’t have the ability to do. The contract will run for several months at a cost of $20,833 per month. This timely agreement was signed right before the city’s contract was set to end with the Orange County Humane Society.
With amenities like mini, plexiglass cat condominiums and play areas for dogs equipped with music and video, this upscale, resort-style pet-living will provide these animals with the type of calm and controlled environment they so desperately need. Under the terms of the contract, a vet will be on site six days a week and on-call Sundays. Services include, but are not limited to: vaccines, dental and visual exams, microchip placement, pre-adoption spay and neuter, laser, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, and therapy. Dogs will be taken on daily walks and the animals will receive the constant care of a full-time staff of 20 employees, 10 of which are caretakers. Local animal rescue groups and shelters will be organizing pet adoptions and any animals left at the Humane Society’s shelter will be transferred to this facility.
This change comes amidst some complaints of the Humane Society’s lack of care for these animals as many critics allege it is not a safe or sanitary environment. Because of this, Costa Mesa city council rejected its plan to open a shelter. The appeals process is currently underway as the Humane Society seeks to obtain a license renewal. A newly formed Animal Services Committee will assist city officials with finding a permanent shelter.
