7 Remodeling Tips To Increase Your Homes Value
By Kurt Real Estate Nov 23, 2019
When selling your home, it goes without saying that you want to get the most you can out of the property. Sometimes, however, this requires a little sprucing up. Before deciding on an entire remodel, weigh out the cost versus the value. A few minor improvements may be all you need. Here are a few remodeling tips to help add value to your home.
Add more light and space. Vaulted ceilings can make a smaller floor plan seem much larger and skylights can significantly brighten a room. Another solution could be knocking down an unnecessary wall to open up the space.
Gotta have that curb appeal. This is a buyer’s first impression. Just like you wouldn’t go to job interview in your pajamas, you shouldn’t let your yard speak poorly of the house. Lure people in with fresh paint, a newly paved driveway, or top notch gardening. If you have a porch, patio furniture and décor always makes a house feel more inviting.
Convert an extra space into a home office. As we previously mentioned in Stage Your Home Like a Pro, you want to display spare rooms and demonstrate your creative use of extra space. Who doesn’t like an in-home office?
Consider adding a deck. When adding a deck, it’s been found that you’ll likely recoup more than 80 percent of its cost.
Finish that basement. Not all homes have extra space to make a home office. Use your basement instead. Basements make for great home offices, media rooms, or playrooms for kids. Again, take advantage of any extra space you have and show it off!
Update the bathrooms. Few people want outdated bathrooms. In fact, this alone could turn away potential buyers. Say adios to the old tile and worn grout and hello to new granite countertops. Swap the old shower head for a waterfall one.
Upgrade the kitchen. Like the bathrooms, this is another area of the home that, when outdated, could push away potential buyers. You’re competing with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. But be careful! Kitchen remodels can cost A LOT. Make sure you will be able to recoup the cost before getting in over your head.
Whichever projects you choose, there are plenty of ways you can renovate your home without spending every last dime you own. Make the decision carefully considering what you will be able to recoup in the sale price.
